Welcome to Anbu Ramana Guesthouse & UMAN Retreat

Anbu Ramana Guesthouse is a peaceful and welcoming place in Tiruvannamalai, close to the sacred Arunachala mountain. Many people experience Arunachala as the living fire of Shiva, a mountain with a deep and powerful presence. The guesthouse offers a calm, welcoming atmosphere where guests can slow down, rest, and feel truly at home.

You are welcome to join Satsang, participate in one of the UMAN retreats, receive personal counseling, or simply stay and explore at your own pace. Whether you are drawn to guidance and structure or to quiet independence, this place offers a supportive space to follow what feels right for you.

Tiruvannamalai is best known for Arunachala, the sacred mountain revered as the living embodiment of Shiva. In the ancient tradition, Arunachala is not seen as a symbol but as a direct manifestation of divine consciousness in form. For centuries, saints, sages, and seekers have been drawn to this mountain, sensing it as a powerful field of stillness, clarity, and inner transformation.

Ramana Maharshi (1879–1950), one of India’s most influential sages, spent most of his life at the foot of Arunachala. After a profound awakening at the age of sixteen, he remained close to the mountain, which he often described as a living teacher, guiding seekers through silence rather than instruction.

At the heart of his teaching lies the simple yet radical question: Who am I? Through self-inquiry, Ramana pointed seekers back to their own inner source, emphasizing that true peace is not something to be attained, but something already present within.

Even today, many experience Arunachala as a quiet, steady presence that naturally invites introspection and inner stillness. Simply being near the mountain — walking around it, sitting in its presence, or gazing upon it — is often felt as deeply calming and orienting.
